The Bar Code Essay Intensive (also known as our semi-private tutorial) is a weekends-only intense substantive review course designed to give students strategic insight into the frequently tested and often misunderstood areas of each of the subjects tested on the California Bar Exam. It was created for students who do not need the extensive review or individualized attention of the full private tutorial, but are looking to improve their comprehension of the black letter law and perfect their writing skills on the essay portion of the exam.

The Intensive is a small group course that meets on the weekends (Saturdays in Nothern California, Sundays and one Saturday in Southern California) during the month of June for 8-hour sessions each. There is also a take home 8-hour workshop that students can do at their leisure (this is technically the 5th class). Each of the 13 subjects (Crimes and Criminal Procedure are one subject; Wills and Trusts are one subject) tested on the California Bar Exam will be covered in its own segment during the Intensive and special attention will be devoted to the areas of each subject that are frequently tested and where students most often make costly mistakes. The Essay Intensive is not a full-service review course and will not include exhaustive outlines or lectures on the individual subjects.

The Intensive is ideal for first-time takers already enrolled in a survey prep course, second-time takers looking for a more strategic and effective approach to studying or students whose scores were within 60-75 points of passing. It is possible, but not recommended, to take the Essay Intensive while studying and working fulltime.

Included in the price of the Essay Intensive is a lecture covering the techniques taught in the regular Essay Writing Workshop; therefore students do not need to enroll in both courses. It does not include any of our publications, but those are available to all Essay Intensive students for a discount.
